The shipyard story......... The shipyard Tjörnvarvet AB is situated
in Rönnäng on the island Tjörn on the Swedish west coast,
approximately 50 kilometres north of Gothenburg. The yard was from the
beginning named Rönnängs Svets. In 1989 the shipyard had built and delivered 18 vessels. In the beginning of 1990 there was a down period in the fishing marked which caused the new building market to decrees and disappear. The yard then concentrated on repairment and reconstruction work. By this time the yard got in contact with Ångfartygs AB Strömma Kanalbolaget in Stockholm. Ångfartygs AB Strömma Kanalbolaget had an old passenger ship named Waxholm III, which they wanted to be reconstructed in original style. This was a very extensive project but after many negotiations the contract was signed. The 28 of December 1992, the towing of Waxholm III from Stockholm to Rönnäng began. This total reconstruction was conducted less than one and a half year until 1994 when the ship was redelivered to Stockholm. Meanwhile a reconstruction was carried out to the passenger ship M/S Lasse Dalqvist, owned by Börjessons Utflyktsbåtar in Göteborg. Under the years 1994-95 two more passenger ships were reconstructed and refreshed for the Strömma Kanalbolaget. These ships were Gustavsberg VII and Cinderella II. During the 1996 the Strömma Kanalbolaget bought the passenger ship Kung Erik. This ship was also reconstructed and renamed S:t Erik. The ship was taken into traffic on the Swedish West Coast for Börjessons Utflyktsbåtar. Between 1998 and 2000 the old steamship S/S Stockholm from 1931 was totally reconstructed to be a tourist passenger ship to the owner Stömma Kanalbolag. Between 1996 and 2003 the shipyard have build and delivery 14 vessels to buyer to Sweden, Norway and Ireland. |
